Hindustan Unilever: Continues to deliver
Hindustan Unilever reported strong numbers in the quarter ended March 2018, with domestic sales (adjusted for GST impact) growing by 16 per cent year-on-year to ₹9,003 crore and profits by 14 per cent to ₹1,351 crore. This was supported by underlying volume growth of 11 per cent. All segments — home care, personal care, refreshments and foods — put up a good show.
Launches such as Comfort fabric conditioner for babies, Pure Derm anti-dandruff shampoo and the new Lakme Nudes range of cosmetics also supported volumes. Even as advertising spends inched up to 11.8 per cent of sales from 9.7 per cent a year ago on the back of a host of launches, the company reported a 160 basis points expansion in operating margins to 22.4 per cent, helped by cost-control efforts. An uptick in rural consumption and expansion of its naturals portfolio will help. The stock was up 6 per cent last week.
